Glazed Office Divider in London
Internal Framed Glazed Office Divider in London. We were recently selected to supply and install a commercial glass wall and glazed office divider for a client based in London. The project involved creating a practical division within the existing office space while maintaining a bright, modern and open feel. A framed glazed partition was selected to provide a clear separation between areas without the visual heaviness of a traditional solid wall. The finished installation combines clear toughened glass with a white aluminium framing system and a matching framed glass door, creating a clean and professional appearance suitable for a contemporary commercial workplace.
Project Summary: Installation of Glazed Partition Wall with Framed Door
For this London project, we installed 25mm aluminium channels finished in RAL 9010 white, providing a simple and clean framework around the glazed partition.
The partition itself uses 12mm clear toughened glass, allowing natural light to pass through the office while creating a defined separation between the different areas. The clear glazing also helps retain visibility and the feeling of space within the workplace.
An aluminium framed glass door was incorporated into the partition, complete with hydraulic hold-open hinges for controlled operation. The door was fitted with a 600mm pull handle and locking mechanism, providing both practicality and security for the enclosed area.
The system supplied was non-fire-rated, in accordance with the requirements of the project, and glass manifestation dots were applied to the glazing to make the glass more clearly visible within the office environment.
The total project value was approximately £3,000–£4,000 + VAT, including supply, delivery and installation.
Glazed Office Divider in London – Frequently Asked Questions
Does glass reduce acoustic privacy in offices?
Standard single-glazed partitions provide some degree of sound separation, although they are not generally intended for high levels of acoustic privacy. Where confidentiality or greater sound control is required, acoustic laminated glass or a double-glazed partitioning system can be considered.
How much natural light can pass through glass office partitions?
Clear glass allows a high level of natural light to pass between different areas of an office. The amount of light reaching a particular area will depend on factors such as the position and size of windows, the partition layout, the glass specification and the surrounding environment.
Can frosted glass provide privacy while allowing light through?
Yes. Frosted glass and manifestation can provide additional visual privacy while still allowing light to pass through the partition. This makes them particularly useful for meeting rooms, private offices and other areas where some screening is required.
Is electronic privacy glass suitable for offices?
Switchable privacy glass can be a useful option for spaces that require flexible levels of privacy. The glass can provide an open appearance when transparency is preferred and increased privacy when required. The suitability and cost will depend on the application and project specification.
What acoustic specification should I choose for meeting rooms?
The appropriate acoustic specification depends on the level of privacy required and the construction of the complete partition system. Where sound separation is particularly important, acoustic laminated glass and double-glazed partition systems can provide improved performance compared with standard single glazing.
How can glare be reduced when using glass office partitions?
Glare can be managed through the use of blinds, suitable glass finishes, window treatments and careful positioning of desks and computer screens. Considering the position of the glazing during the design stage can help create a more comfortable working environment.
Can glazed office partitions improve energy efficiency?
Internal glass partitions can help distribute available natural light throughout a workplace, potentially reducing the need for artificial lighting during daylight hours. However, overall building energy performance depends on many factors, so specific energy calculations should be assessed by an appropriately qualified professional.
Can glass partitions be used in small offices?
Yes. Glazed partitions can be particularly effective in smaller offices because they create defined areas without making the space feel as enclosed as a solid wall. Clear glazing helps maintain visibility and allows light to move between areas.
Can glass walls be installed in a room without windows?
Glass partitions can allow borrowed light from neighbouring areas into a room, but they cannot create natural daylight where there is no external light source. Where a room has no windows, additional artificial lighting will still be required.
How should glass office partitions be maintained?
Glass partitions should be cleaned regularly using suitable, non-abrasive cleaning products. Frames, doors and hardware should also be checked and maintained as required. Following the manufacturer’s care recommendations can help keep the installation looking its best and operating correctly.
